A USEFUL RULE
Plan for the way you will retrieve things, not only the way they fit on day one.
A narrow aisle and clear labels often save more time than choosing the smallest possible room.
Give every box a short code and write it on at least two sides. Keep a matching digital list with the box code, a plain description and the part of the unit where it sits. Photographs help with furniture, electronics and valuable groups of items, while a simple sketch can show the order of shelves or aisles.
Update the list whenever something enters or leaves. Store the inventory outside the unit so you can check it before travelling, and keep purchase records separately where appropriate. Review the total replacement value periodically because your contents protection should reflect what is actually stored.
WHEN A LIST ISN’T ENOUGH
Send the team a photograph of the largest pieces.
We can usually narrow the choice to two sensible sizes, then explain the difference between compact packing and easier access.
